About This Blog

post-pran-di-al, adj. during or relating to the period after dinner or lunch.

ru-mi-na-tion, n. a deep or considered thought about something; the action of chewing the cud.

I'm a filmmaker, illustrator, graphic designer, and photographer by profession, but I have developed a passion for cooking as a serious hobby over the years. In about 2010, I began sending occasional emails about dishes that I was particularly excited about to a few family members, and since then my email list has grown to include lots of friends and family. After years of suggestions that I switch to a blog instead of these limited emails... well, here we are.

The archive section up until June 2018 is comprised of the original emails. As they were intended as personal emails, you may notice their informality (and you'll get to know me and some of my friends and family as well). You may also observe my growth in cooking and see how my format and efforts have changed over the years.

As for the cooking itself, almost every dish is based on recipes gleaned from cookbooks, television, magazines, and various online resources. While I explore new ingredients and techniques frequently, I don't experiment without a recipe too often. I want to be able to duplicate exactly what I've done before, in part to keep my hard working wife, Kara, happy with predictable results. If you're ever interested in a recipe, hit me up and I'll try to dig it up for you or at least give you the source if it's not already credited.

My updates are sporadic. I cook virtually everyday, and often spend hours in the kitchen on the weekend, but I only post when I feel like I have something particularly fun, new, or interesting to say. Sometimes that's twice a week, sometimes it's once every couple months. Follow me by email if you'd like to get the occasional surprise update.

I'd be remiss if I didn't plug my professional work while I'm at it. Visit my website, xsfilm.com, to see my film projects. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy my culinary adventures.
